Soccer for the district

In the last days of September 2010, the Foundation NIDA, with the help of its volunteer team, evaluated the whole community of Soberania, Chitre, to learn its necessities and present our sports project.

Ross Duncan (a Canadian volunteer) directed the project. This project aims to reach youth with values like healthy and proactive life, coexistence, and community, from dangers of the streets and the consolidation of bad habits. The proposal is to use their talents in soccer and other sports activities.

In the last weeks of October 2010, Ross Duncan and the team of NIDA volunteers visited Soberania to organize soccer teams and games with the motto “Soccer of district.” Before the games, the participants received a speech on attitudes and goals of life through soccer training.

DONATION PANDEPORTES CHITRE – SOCCER

To promote the sports around the area, our organization made a $50 donation of soccer balls, cones, and a whistle for the PanDeportes (Panama’s National Institute of Sports) committee in Chitre. They already had a synthetic field for soccer, but it lacked football balls and cones to train and play in this field.

More than 300 local children use this field to play football and to improve their talents. With this donation, more children can play and train, which means that there are fewer children on the streets using or involved in drugs and other illicit activities.

NIDA will continue working with PanDeportes in Chitre to create a female soccer league for children and adolescents and increase the self-esteem of the women in Chitre.
