HIV catchment and linkage clinic in Western Panama

CDNA supports monthly to the HIV catchment and linkage clinic in David, Chiriquí.  

This clinic is innovative in its recruitment, linkage, and adherence strategy for men who have sex with men, sex workers, and transgender populations. In 2022, this innovative clinic, located in David, Chiriquí has focused on:

  1. Deliveries of HIV antiretroviral treatment to patients undergoing treatment who, due to work or study hours, cannot access Ministry of Health clinics

 2. The initiation of preexposure prophylaxis (PrEP) for HIV prevention to an average of 10 patients per month.

3. Educational prevention programs for key populations 

4. Followup with patients who have dropped out of antiretroviral treatment and care in the Ngabe-Buglé Comarca, Coffee plantations and the city of David. 

 5. HIV counseling among individuals in distress due to barrier method failure or violent experiences.

6. Home follow-up HIV care visits for bedridden patients due to opportunistic infections secondary to AIDS.

7. Nutritional support for patients with immunological failure

8. The clinic also serves as a meeting place for various HIV treatment and prevention organizations including LGBTIQ+ support organizations in the region.
