2022 Health Among Migrant Peoples in Transit Through Panama

Migration through the Darien Gap at the Colombia-Panama border has increased drastically in the past two years.  In 2022, more than 180,000 people en route to North America walked the 90km stretch of dense tropical forest.

This year, CDNA teamed up with the Gorgas Memorial Institute for Health Studies in Panama to provide medical care and undertake a rapid epidemiological survey and qualitative study to describe the healthcare needs of migrant people who transit through the Darien Gap.
